第一段落は、説明。「恩返しは、なかなかできないことも多い。例えば、あのとき、あの人は、こういうことをしてくれんだと思いだしたときに、その人がもう身近にいないということもある。しかし、その分、自分が受けた恩をほかの人に送っていくことはできる。私は、そういう恩送りのできる人間になりたい。」など。
第二段落は、方法１。「そのためには、まず第一に、人間どうしの関わりについて敏感になることだ。例えば、江戸しぐさというものがある。狭い道を通り過ぎるときなど、持っている傘を斜めにして相手が通りやすいように配慮することだ。しかし、こういうことをされたときに、自分がそのことに気づく感性を持っていなければならない。先日……」など。
第三段落は、方法２。「恩送りをするために大事なことは第二に、自分に直接関係のない人に対しても、人間はみんな兄弟のようなものだと考えることだ。先日、父が外出先で財布を落としてきた。父は半ばあきらめていたが、数日後見知らぬ人から連絡があり、その財布は戻ってきた。私はその話を聞いたときに……」など。
